Public schools in the Vancouver School District (District 39) are governed by the Vancouver School Board, which sets the calendar of school dates for each year.

School Terms in British Columbia
- Private schools may have slightly different dates; check with the relevant school
- The school year begins on the first Tuesday after Labour Day (first Monday of September) and runs until the end of June, the following year
- Schools close for summer vacation in July and August
- Winter holidays last approximately two weeks during Christmas and New Year
- Most schools close for a spring break in March or April. This break may be one or two weeks, depending on the individual school
- Schools also close for various administrative purposes and for staff professional development
- Schools close on all national public holidays
Closures Due to Weather
Schools may close due to weather conditions (usually snow or ice). To find out whether a school is closed due to weather on a given day:
- See the website of the school district
- See the website of the individual school
- Listen to local news broadcasts on the radio
- Telephone the school directly
